Kim Fedchak - Vocals, Ney, Clarinet, Recorders, Accordion & Percussion

Kimberly Fedchak
Ney, Clarinet, Recorders, Accordion, Percussion, Vocals

The daughter of two musicians, Kim grew up in a household where musical pursuits were a part of everyday life. She says her mother's classical piano background and father's involvement in everything from Dixieland to jazz to R & B to reggae provided early exposure to many traditions, while her parents' musicianship remains an inspiration to this day.

Much of Kim's musical knowledge comes from her experience as a high school student band conductor for Becky Stranges and as a choral accompanist for Richard Perry, both of Corning, NY. She also studied piano with Claire Smock of Corning, NY, Phiroze Mehta of Ithaca College, and Sedmara Rutstein of Oberlin College. Kim received a BA in Russian at Oberlin in 1993 and found an opportunity to combine her love of music and language as a Russian diction coach for Philadelphiaís Academy of Vocal Arts from 1994 to 1999. Currently an instructor of Russian at Swarthmore College, Kim plays piano for English country dances with Socks and sings in a multi-generational womenís Eastern European vocal ensemble, Svitanya, of which she is a founding member. Now she is expanding her musical horizons with Animus' original compositions, and looks forward to delving into the beautiful intricacies of the Middle Eastern vocal and instrumental traditions.
